Harvest Prayer 1

Almighty and ever living God, we come humbly and with reverence into your Holy presence, conscious of our own failings and your great mercy. We thank you that in Jesus we have access right to your heart of love, and can approach you as Children to a father, as needful, to the one who is our provider, and as those who are too often faithless, to one who is ever faithful.   We look around us Lord at the bounty and beauty of our world, and at the marvels of nature.   We admire the handiwork of your creation, and we see your Divine impression in the simplest of the things around us. We marvel at the fragility of the flower, and the strength of the tree. We stand in awe at the splendour of the Heavens, and the power of the wind.   Yet you have called into being all of these, and sustain our world and its resources with a word.   We thank you Lord for Seedtime and Harvest, Summer and Winter, Sunshine and rain, and know that the cycles of your created wonders, will continue because of your promises to us. Today we give you the gratitude and love of our Hearts for the good things you have provided on our tables, the harvest of our fields and the harvest of the seas.   In rivers and gardens, forests and lakes, you have given a bounty so that we here enjoy bread enough and to spare.   You have not only fed us, but have nourished the beasts of the field and the fowl of the air, and with every good gift you have reminded us of your loving nature and your understanding heart.   Enable and empower us by your Holy Spirit to live in gratitude with generous and overflowing kindness towards each other, so that the example given us by Jesus, may be lived out in our walk and talk.   Speak Lord to our listening Spirits as we read and meditate upon your Holy Word today, and may the Lord of the Harvest become the Lord of our Hearts, for we ask it…
